It’s no secret that plants have medicinal properties and many people use herbal remedies in their life. But not only teas and tinctures from dried plants  can influence our body. The effect of the fresh flowers on humans is also quite noticeable. Having plants at home, they can invisible change the atmosphere and clear the air.

Each plant is a living organism and has its own individual set of qualities and properties, through which it can affect our lives in some way. For example, Chlorophytum also known as green lily (Chlorophytum comosum) purifies the air and absorbs odors and thus improves the atmosphere in the room.

The role of the indoor plants in our life is very important. The house flowers have a beneficial effect on the health of their owners. For example, geranium calms the nervous system and normalizes circulation. Cissus is known as ambient vine (Rhoicissus rhomboidea) preventing the diseases like angina and Roses help to get rid of fatigue and irritation.

Chrysanthemum

This plant (Chrysanthemum morifolium) is a favorite of NASA. These are the flowers used to purify the air in the offices of the aerospace agency. They effectively absorb ammonia, benzene and formaldehyde from the air in every room. Chrysanthemum is not a typical room plant, but with regular watering and placed in an appropriate place can “work” for us for a long time. In fact, the flower is not expensive and can me prefect as a flower bed in the yard.

Chlorophytum or ‘Spider Plant’

Chlorophytum (Chlorophytum comosum) is a simple and unpretentious plant that does not require special care. They are also called green lily because of abundant green mass and small white flowers. It can live both on light and shade if it is watered regularly. Chlorophytum can effectively absorb all chemicals that spraying when cleaning your home.

The plant is also called ‘Spider Plant’, due to its spectacular branches that descend sideways, like a spider silk. Chlorophytum is known for replenishing oxygen and it removes disposed of 85% of formaldehyde and 80% of benzene in the air. The plant is unpretentious and easy to grow, and although love moisture, its fleshy base allows to survive a long time without water. There are several symptoms that need to change the growing conditions – if the leaves are brown top, it means that the air is too dry, and if they lose their bright stripes, the place is too dark. The plant is suitable for cultivation in the office because you can leave it without problems during the weekend when you can not water it.

Dracaena

Worldwide, there are more than 40 species of this plant. So we can easily find the kind that externally we like the most. Dracaena deal well with benzene, trichloroethylene and xylene from the air. It is true that these flowers are less toxic to cats and dogs. So if you have a small house with pets, think before you take dracaena at home.

The Weeping fig (Ficus benjamina)

The Weeping fig (Ficus benjamina) is the most popular homemade mini-tree. If you plant in a large pot and give it good conditions, it can really grow to an impressive size. As a rule, however, an average rubber plant is from 60 to 120 cm in height. Benjamin Golden King – is colored with yellow at the edges of leaves. Benjamin Midnight Lady is with dark green leaves. Benjamin Naomi – with dark green leaves curled at the edges. Benjamin Samantha – with dark green leaves and bright green edges of the leaves. Benjamin Starlight has leaves colored with white edges. In spring and summer we can carry the plant out – in the yard or on the balcony.

This plant does not require much light and thrives even at lower temperatures. It effectively removes toxic formaldehyde from the air and purifies the rooms. Water the plant thoroughly – it is better the soil to gets dry between waterings. Ficus benjamina needs plenty of water, so be sure to regularly spray the leaves with spray – in summer, use cool water and in the winter water it very little.

Spathiphyllum

Spathiphyllum is a truly beautiful flower, which blooms mostly in summer. Because of its elegant white flowers, it is called a white flamingo.
Its homeland are the moist tropical forests of Central and South America and are known about 36 species. It prefers shady spots and moist but not waterlogged soil. The plant can successfully remove from the air ammonia, benzene, formaldehyde and trichloroethylene.

Spathiphyllum is of the few flowers that bloom easily even in shady areas. The plant is not only beautiful, but also easy to grow, and it effectively removes harmful chemicals in the air – alcohols, acetone, trichlorethylene, benzene, formaldehyde, carbon dioxide. Spathiphyllum requires heat and moist air. It must be protected from the direct sunlight and it is best to be placed in penumbra. During the summer, the soil should be moderately moist, and the plant periodically sprayed with water. In winter it is watered more moderate, with water at room temperature. The plant is poisonous – it can cause gastrointestinal disorders, and if it gets on your skin, the juice can cause severe irritation.

Nephrolepis, the sword fern

This plant likes cool places with high humidity and reflected light. The bathroom is the perfect place for this “helper”. He cleans the air of pollutants like xylene.

Sansevieria

Pots of this plant we can often see everywhere – in offices, shops and restaurants. And it is not by chance – sansevieria requires almost no care. We need to water at least once a month – these plant like dry conditions. It does not need a large amount of sunlight.

From spring to late autumn can be kept outdoors – in the garden or on the balcony. In winter it needs light and cool place and to be watered extremely moderate in order not to dry its roots.

The scent of certain plants can not only increase the appetite, but also reduce the attraction to certain foods.

Scientists from the University of Townsville in Australia have discovered dietary properties of Roses. The experiment was conducted among 3,200 women, aged 20 to 36 years who suffered from obesity.

In the rooms of half of the participants were placed bouquets of roses and in the other half – with field flowers. Bouquets were changed every day for three weeks, participants in the experiment spent in their rooms not less than three hours a day.

It was found that young women who stayed in their rooms with roses, experienced less hunger. The daily intake of calories fell with 1,000 and they lost weight between 3 and 5 pounds.

According to team leader these effect is due to the fact that the scent of roses activated the area in the brain that is associated with the feeling of hunger. So, the scent of these beautiful flower creates a false sense of satiety.

Here are some tips:

  • For cleaning the air from the toxins, does not need to overcrowd the room with plants. In one room is enough to have 2 plants for a good effect.
  • The best location of the flowers is to the north, east-south or south to be able to relaunch the positive energy in these areas for health, prosperity and luck.
  • Most preferred are plants that have circular or oval leaves. It is not desirable to have plants with sharp leaves and thorns (especially cactus). At sharp angles in the room formed by walls, furniture or columns if you want to neutralize the angles, use rambling plants or creepers.
